Are you in Spain? If you’re near, Visit the Beautiful City Cartagena in Spain! This place is definitely worth a visit. It has a pleasant atmosphere, a beautiful location, delicious food, and you can explore the history by walking around! Perfect for a day trip. What to do? We give you information about the sights, museums, activities, and restaurants you shouldn’t miss!
Sighs:
- Roman Theater: Visit the Roman amphitheater, well-preserved after all these years. Admission is free and offers a beautiful view over Cartagena, the sea, hills, and surroundings. This is definitely worth a visit.
- Stroll along the boulevard: We parked our car along the boulevard in an underground parking garage. Above, we were immediately surprised by the beautiful view. There are places to eat and drink along the boulevard. You get a nice view of the sea and the hills around Cartagena. Many beautiful photos can be taken here!
- Visit the center: Walk around the center, where you’ll find charming shops, beautiful architecture, and squares. There are markets with local products and treats. Also, visit the impressive Cathedral of Cartagena here.
- To the water: Less inclined to walk through the city? Head to the water! In Cartagena, there are beaches like Playa de Cala Cortina and Playa de la Victoria where you can sunbathe. You can also take a boat tour, snorkel, and dive if you feel like it!
- Nature: If you enjoy being active outdoors and want to see the surroundings, you can also hike in the nearby nature. An example is Calblanque Regional Park.
- La Algameca Chica: This place is actually just outside Cartagena but we highly recommend going there. The road looks unreliable, but it is the right way! Once there, you have a beautiful small fishing village by the water nestled between the hills. The huts are beautifully colored, and people live there for real. It doesn’t seem touristy, yet there’s a small restaurant where you can eat and drink by the water. Swimming is also possible, and again, take many photos of the view and the village! Please be considerate of the residents.
Museums:
- Naval Museum: We didn’t actually go here due to lack of time, but we heard and saw beautiful things about it. If you want to know more about the history of Cartagena, don’t miss this museum. Here, you’ll find information about old traditions and objects used in the past.
- Archaeological Museum: Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for this either. Again, this museum is about the history of Cartagena, but even further back in time than the Naval Museum. Here, you’ll see more Roman artifacts and learn facts about the region’s past. This trip complements the Roman amphitheater well.
Food:
- Chef Momo: This place is mainly Vegan with all Organic products, but don’t be afraid! Everything is extremely tasty here. It might be wise to make a reservation because it’s often full. We shared several dishes here, and everything was incredibly delicious. We had bao buns, a wrap, and lasagna/casserole, and I still dream about it.
- El Cantón: Unfortunately, we didn’t try this place, but it looked amazingly delicious. This place is in a cute side street where you can get all kinds of traditional tapas. Dishes like stuffed artichoke, croquettes, cheese platters, small burgers, marinated shrimp, and sandwiches. Don’t forget the desserts here! Have a great time in Cartagena!
